Futsal League adds Video Support for play-offs, Corinthians through

The National Futsal League (LNF) will feature a new addition in the playoffs of the current edition. On Wednesday, the 17th, the organization announced on its social media that the knockout matches of the competition will include Video Support (VS) technology, similar to VAR used in football, but with different usage rules. After all, the feature can be activated both by the referees and upon request by the clubs.

According to the announcement, the tool will operate through “challenges” requested by the teams in five specific situations: goal/no goal, penalty/no penalty, direct red card, mistaken player identity, and verification of the sixth accumulated foul. The referees, on the other hand, may activate VS to check clock errors, goals scored, and balls that crossed the line before the final buzzer of the period.

Each team will be entitled to one “unsuccessful challenge” per period (including overtime), meaning challenges that do not result in a change of the on-court decision. On the other hand, there will be no limit for “successful challenges.” The courts will have a single monitor for reviews, and referees will maintain direct communication with replay operators. The model is similar to the challenge systems used in volleyball and also in North American basketball.

It is worth noting that Corinthians, who play in the LNF this Thursday, the 18th, against Marreco Futsal, are already mathematically qualified for the round of 16, as they hold the eighth position in the table with 36 points and can no longer be overtaken by São Lourenço, who are currently in 17th place.
