Gabri Veiga is being warmly celebrated across his Galician heartland, from Porriño to Celta Vigo’s Balaídos, as his form for Porto reconnects him with home.
According to O Jogo, outside Balaídos there was fervent affection for the Vigo club and fond recollections of Veiga among teachers and family friends of Porto’s number 10.
Influential at the Dragão and even viewed as a reinforcement for the Club World Cup, he has been a standout for Porto with five goals and nine assists, earning admirers for his vision and precise final ball.
The 23-year-old Galician returned from Saudi Arabia to relaunch his European career after breaking through at Celta in La Liga.
His Saudi stint briefly dimmed his visibility, but two years on he has been restored to familiar surroundings at a prestigious European club close to his birthplace in Porriño.
Beyond Porto’s own supporters, his appeal has widened locally, with interest in the club stretching between Porriño and Vigo. Many friends and acquaintances of the midfielder live there, alongside others who simply admire his precocious talent.
