Gabriel Gudmundsson sought out the Leeds away end at full-time to apologise after his red card at Crystal Palace, Leedsunited.news reports.

The dismissal proved the game’s key moment, leaving Leeds to play a long spell with ten men. They hung on to draw 0-0 at Selhurst Park.

Debate followed immediately. Former referee Mark Clattenburg set out how officials interpret dangerous tackles and serious foul play, while head coach Daniel Farke disagreed, saying: “It was not even close to a yellow card, there was no pace in the duel, it was not a tactical foul.”

After the whistle, footage online shows Gudmundsson shaking hands and speaking with supporters at the away end, choosing not to head straight down the tunnel.

It was not the first time he fronted up. Earlier in the campaign he also approached the Leeds fans after defeat at Fulham, apologising despite the decisive own goal not being entirely his fault.
