Gabriel Gudmundsson remains non-committal on a Leeds United return for the final two games, but is confident he will be fine for the World Cup.
The Swede was named in Graham Potter’s squad for the finals on Tuesday, the first Leeds player formally confirmed. He has missed the past two games after a hamstring injury in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea. He had been expected to return for Sunday’s home match with Brighton & Hove Albion.
“It’s nothing that I can comment on. I went a little behind. But I have had a good dialogue with the national team management and will be fully ready when the World Cup squad gathers on May 27th.”
He was speaking to Hallandsporten.
Before this setback he had missed just one Premier League match through injury and one through suspension, his controversial red card against Crystal Palace.
The 27-year-old has 16 more Sweden caps than his father, former Blackburn Rovers winger Niklas, and this summer he will play at a World Cup.
“It will be tough to go straight from a season in the Premier League to playing in the World Cup. But at the same time it is a big dream for me.” “Getting to hang out with the national team in Mexico and the USA will be crazy fun.”
