Gabriel Gudmundsson has brushed off talk of Chelsea interest, stressing his focus has been on Leeds after a relentless first year.
“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football,” he said, as quoted by Sport Witness. “But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.”
The 27-year-old joined last July in a £10million move and has racked up 48 appearances for club and country. His season extended into the World Cup, where he played all four matches as Sweden reached the last-32 before a 3-0 defeat to tournament favourites France. He has also recently become a first-time father.
Leeds may face interest in Gudmundsson and other key members of Daniel Farke’s squad after last season’s performances. The left-back settled quickly after arriving from France, thriving as an adventurous wing-back and becoming a crowd favourite at Elland Road.
“Everything is so professional,” he added. “We have enjoyed ourselves since the first second we got there so we are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come.”
“Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don’t think you understand how big the club is until you are in it.”
