Gabriel Gudmundsson overcame an illness scare to start for Sweden in a 5-1 World Cup win over Tunisia, reprising his left wing-back role familiar from Elland Road.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Leeds United defender, 27, had only just returned from the hamstring injury sustained in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea. He then missed training and isolated ahead of the opener after falling ill.
He lasted 65 minutes, signalling to the bench in the second half that he needed to come off. He departed with Sweden 3-0 up.
Post-match, the issue was thought to be cramp.
The result leaves Sweden well placed in Group F before facing the Netherlands on Saturday, then Japan on 26 June. Former Elland Road favourite Crysencio Summerville scored the Dutch side’s second in their 2-2 draw with Japan, for whom Leeds midfielder Ao Tanaka was an unused substitute.
