Gabriel Paulista set for Vitória reunion as Corinthians visit in Brasileiro | OneFootball

Corinthians visit Vitória on Saturday night in the 12th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, a reunion for centre-back Gabriel Paulista. Meu Timao notes it pits him against the club that launched his senior career.

He joined Vitória’s academy in 2009 after Taboão da Serra, debuted in 2010 and quickly stood out, earning recognition among the leading centre-backs in the Campeonato Baiano.

His stay brought relegation to Série B and swift promotion back. From 2012 he was a regular despite criticism and fan pressure, and finished with 142 games and seven goals.

For Vitória he faced Corinthians three times in the league, losing twice with one draw. The wins came in 2013 and 2010, with a draw also in 2010.

In 2013 he moved to Villarreal for about four million euros, worth more than R$ 10 million then, a record sale for Bahian football. He spent around 13 years in Europe.

Back home, he became Corinthians’ first signing of 2026 and quickly secured a starting place under Dorival Júnior. He has 17 appearances, 15 starts, with seven wins, four draws, six defeats and two goals, plus the Supercopa do Brasil.

With three straight clean sheets, Corinthians now chase a first league win since 19 February. They sit 16th on 11 points from 11 games and could move closer to the top half with an away win at Vitória.
