Galatasaray are preparing a January move for Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte as they monitor his situation. According to Turkish-Football.com, the Süper Lig champions plan to test United’s resolve while the 24-year-old struggles for minutes at Old Trafford.

Under Ruben Amorim, Casemiro has been the preferred defensive pivot, leaving Ugarte on the fringes. The Uruguayan was initially viewed as the Brazilian’s long-term successor, but the transition has been difficult.

United have lost every match he has started in all competitions. He has made just 11 appearances this season.

Regular football is a priority for Ugarte, with a World Cup ahead and his Uruguay place to protect. A move to Istanbul is attractive for the promise of regular minutes.

The club is lining up a formal approach in the winter window, viewing him as a high-energy addition for the second half of the season.

A deal in January is not assured, as United may be reluctant to weaken their midfield mid-season amid Casemiro’s age and rumours over a possible winter exit for Kobbie Mainoo. If Ugarte remains on the margins over the festive period, pressure for a move could build, and interest may roll into the summer.
