Sarina Wiegman’s side fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Copa America Femenina champions in a friendly on Saturday evening.
An exciting City connection to the fixture saw our shot stopper, Khiara Keating, earn her debut England cap.
In a stadium close to her heart, the 21-year-old earned her first senior international cap, making her the first minority goalkeeper to represent England Women.
It was a chaotic first half, which saw Brazil take an early two-goal lead through Beatriz Zaneratto and Maria Eduarda Rodrigues, before their captain Angelina Alonso Costantino was shown a straight red card after her foul on Ella Toone who burst through on goal.
In the second half, all of the game was played with Brazil pinned back and forced to defend as a unit.
Georgia Stanway’s penalty halved the deficit, but, despite her ranged shot hitting the crossbar, and Alex Greenwood also going close, England were unable to snatch a draw.
Both sets of fans brought the noise to the Etihad in what was an exciting night that saw two of the best teams in the world go toe to toe.
