Beata Olsson has been a bright spark for a Liverpool side struggling to find a win in the WSL

Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor believes there is “more to come” from Beata Olsson, as the striker aims to accomplish an impressive scoring feat when the Reds meet Arsenal this weekend.

The 24-year-old has been a bright spark for Liverpool, amid a difficult winless season in the Women’s Super League.

Olsson, who joined the club from Kristanstads in Sweden over the summer, has scored in each of Liverpool’s last three WSL games.

She also netted a hat-trick during Liverpool’s 4-1 League Cup victory over Sheffield United before the international break.

Liverpool are bottom of the WSL with two points from eight games, but Olsson could be the player to save their season, given her recent scoring form.

What has Gareth Taylor said about Beata Olsson?

In a column on the Liverpool website ahead of his side’s clash with Arsenal, Gareth Taylor said he has been “really impressed” with Swedish international Beata Olsson.

“Beata Olsson grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick (against Sheffield United) and I’ve been really impressed with her,” Taylor said in his column.

“We put Beata back into the team against Tottenham and she scored her first goal for us and has scored in every game since. So you can’t knock that, she has been really impressive in front of goal.

“There are still more things to come from her in her game that we can improve. But with her attitude and work ethic, I think that’s the best asset Beata has.”

Taylor also said he was happy that Olsson could train with Liverpool over the international break, as she was not called up by Sweden.

He said: “We want these players to go away with their respective nations. But when they don’t go away, it just gives us good one-to-one time with the players.”

Beata Olsson eyes WSL scoring record

Liverpool striker Olsson could become the first player in WSL history to net in as many as four of her first five starts in the competition.

Olsson failed to score on her debut in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on September 14th.

However, she scored in games with Tottenham, Brighton and Chelsea across November. To achieve the WSL scoring feat, Olsson will need to find the back of the net when Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal on Sunday.

Liverpool are bottom of the table with just two points from eight games. Taylor’s side will be massive underdogs against the Champions League holders, especially given their current defensive issues.

Captain Grace Fisk is unlikely to play after suffering an injury while on England duty. Taylor was frustrated by the injury, as Liverpool are limited in terms of options with Risa Shimizu also out of action.
