Gary McAllister says Leeds United should sell Pascal Struijk this summer if they cannot agree a new contract. The defender is entering the final year of his deal.

“I think they'll offer him a new contract and try to keep him. Team stability is important. Plus, he's a left-footed center-back, which is rare. Lefties are hard to come by.” He told Leeds Live, courtesy of BetSelect.

Struijk has been at Leeds for eight years after joining as a teenager in 2018, and he is now 26. He drew transfer interest last year and could again, while Daniel Farke named him part of his squad core last summer. Leeds hope to keep key players this window, although fringe sales are likely.

“But then it becomes difficult if a player is not looking to sign. I think you've got to gauge that. If he's not showing that he wants to commit to Leeds United, then you've got to sell.”

“Losing somebody for free at the end of a contract isn't good planning. So I would imagine they'll be looking to tie him into a contract soon.”

Given the small fee he originally cost, Leeds would make a significant profit, and new finance rules due this summer leave tighter short-term margins. Wilfried Gnonto, who started just three league games last season, also falls into this bracket and there is more anticipation that he will leave, with Europa League finalists Freiburg the first known club to enquire about the Italian.
