Gary Rowett has been appointed Leicester City manager, with 14 matches to steer them away from relegation to League One. He starts with this weekend’s trip to former side Stoke.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he has signed until the end of the season and took training on Wednesday.
Rowett returns to City after more than 50 appearances at right-back in the early noughties and brings in former team-mate Callum Davidson as assistant.
City took 24 days to replace Marti Cifuentes. In that spell, they lost three league games and went out of the FA Cup under caretaker Andy King. Portsmouth’s win over Charlton on Tuesday left them two points shy of safety.
Rowett was available after leaving relegation rivals Oxford in December. He has overseen more than 400 Championship matches across Birmingham, Derby, Stoke, Millwall and Oxford.
A leaky defence will demand attention, with 26 league matches since the last clean sheet.
