The Foxes were relegated to League One after drawing with Hull City.

Garry Rowett was drafted in as the man to steer Leicester City clear of relegation, but instead, he has played his part in sending them down.

The 52-year-old was appointed as Foxes boss in mid-February, having been sacked by fellow strugglers Oxford United two months prior, with the club third-bottom in the Championship and two points adrift of safety.

On Tuesday night, Leicester were only able to draw with play-off-chasing Hull City, meaning that their fate has been sealed with two games to spare.

To make matters worse, Rowett has now been criticised for a decision he made in the clash with the Tigers, and it is one that, quite frankly, has baffled supporters.

Gary Rowett called out for Harry Winks decision

Given what transpired between Harry Winks and Leicester fans last week, it was no surprise to see him named on the bench on Tuesday night.

After the East Midlands outfit's 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth last Saturday, the former England international was filmed swearing at his own supporters while getting on the team bus.

Surprisingly, Rowett opted to bring Winks on as a second-half substitute, and now pundit Adrian Clarke has publicly laid into the manager.

“I like Gary Rowett, you know, I like him as a fella. I think he’s a good, solid manager, but for me, he made a massive error of judgment," he told What the EFL?! podcast.

"He brought on Harry Winks, and Harry Winks is public enemy number one at Leicester. The fans hate him; he’s been described as poisonous all season. He swore at the fans getting on the bus the other day.

"When he was warming up, he was roundly booed quite viciously. His response was to clap them, which, for me, was a bit antagonistic.

"There was no need to bring him on. It felt like he was sending a message to the fans like ‘I’m in charge here,' Gary Rowett. It was a massive misread of the room, and suddenly the atmosphere became toxic.”

What next for Rowett and Winks?

With the Foxes heading to League One, there are bound to be wholesale changes, and it would be unsurprising if the entire team were ripped up and rebuilt.

But what about Rowett and Winks?

Well, given that the former Derby County boss failed in his mission to keep the East Midlands club afloat, it feels as if he will not be at the helm next term, with talkSPORT claiming that he and the club will part company.

During his time at the King Power Stadium, the 52-year-old has won just one of his 12 games in charge, and while the players are also to blame, that record is just not up to scratch.

As for Winks, he has managed to become the most hated man at Leicester City, as he has gone from an England international to being relegated to League One in the space of six years.

The 30-year-old's contract expires this summer, and given what has unfolded of late, there is surely no way that he is given a fresh one, with the midfielder on an astonishing estimated £90,000 per week, according to Capology.

While the future looks bleak, the Foxes can take inspiration from Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Southampton, who all rose from the depths of League One to return to the Premier League.

However, the club simply cannot afford to make the same costly mistakes and must take sensible steps to rebuild on and off the pitch.
