Canada international Jonathan David has only scored one goal since joining Juventus, and Gazzetta notes that the ex-Lille forward seems to struggle with competition for a starting spot in Turin.

David had had the best possible start to his Serie A career as he scored on his debut in the league on August 24, contributing to a 2-0 win over Parma.

The following matches, however, did not unfold as the 25-year-old hoped for, given that he didn’t score in any of the following five outings, and missed an open goal against Villarreal on Wednesday.

Friday’s printed edition of Gazzetta dello Sport analysed David’s performances, suggesting that the Canadian is struggling to link up with his teammates, mostly because he hasn’t yet earned a starting spot at the Allianz Stadium.

David was not included in the starting line-up against Inter, Verona and Atalanta and played as an attacking midfielder against Borussia Dortmund.

Igor Tudor hasn’t yet decided on a clear hierarchy in attack, and according to Gazzetta, David needs consistency to improve the chemistry with his teammates.

Vlahovic favourite to start against Milan

Juventus’ centre-forwards all have different skill sets. David is ideal for link-up play, Dusan Vlahovic is more of a classic centre-forward, while Lois Openda is ideal for counter-attacks and runs into the space, and Tudor hasn’t yet identified the more suitable striker for his playing style.

Juventus will host Milan on Sunday night, and Gazzetta reports that David is expected to start on the bench again, with Vlahovic currently favourite over Openda.
