Jerome Abbey became Wolves’ youngest Premier League player at 16 years and 250 days, and the club’s second youngest overall, as Sunday’s draw with Burnley brought the curtain down on their eight-season top-flight stay.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that the milestone capped a rapid week, from a Year 11 GCSE English Literature exam on Thursday to a Premier League debut on Sunday, and that Abbey ranks as the 15th youngest player in the competition’s history.

The England youth international made his senior league bow at Turf Moor in the 74th minute, having earlier in the season been named among the substitutes.

Head coach Rob Edwards paid tribute afterwards and said Abbey can help inspire other academy prospects to follow the same path.

Football runs in the family, with brothers Jez and Jed also progressing through the Molineux ranks. Jez, an attacking midfielder, later signed for AFC Telford United in National League North and featured for the Bucks between loans at Barwell, Rushall Olympic and Shifnal Town.

He has since turned out for several sides and last season scored 11 goals for Alvechurch. Jed was with Wolves up to under-18 level before spells in non-league, including South Shields, most recently Marine.
