Francesco Camarda is never far away from the headlines despite being just 16 years of age, and more records could tumble tonight if he enters the field.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write, Camarda will start tonight’s game against Club Brugge on the bench but if Paulo Fonseca were to give him the nod to come on then he would become the youngest player in the club’s history to make his Champions League debut.

Not only that, but he would be the seventh-youngest overall in the entire history of the competition and the youngest Italian, given the record currently belongs to Moise Kean who made his debut with Juventus at 16 years and 267 days old.

Camarda was the youngest debutant in Serie A, a record that dates back to 25 November when he came on at San Siro aged just 15 years, 8 months and 15 days. Today his call-up is also a necessity as it was then, with Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic not available.

When he made his league debut against Fiorentina earlier in the year Camarda was waiting to sign his first professional contract with Milan and had been contacted by top international clubs, like Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

More Stories about Francesco Camarda

In the end Milan were able to get Camarda to sign a renewal thanks to the work of the directors and his agents, but the boy with a Curva Sud tattoo never saw his future anywhere else to begin with and since putting pen to paper he has already contributed more memorable moments.

He scored a brace in Milan Futuro’s first official game in the Coppa Italia against Novara in the summer. He scored the goal against Carpi in their first home league match, plus three goals that took the Primavera team to their first UEFA Youth League final last year.

Yesterday Alvaro Morata took him by the arm and they went down the steps to the Milanello field together: The Spaniard will be his guide and – if Camarda gets to play even a single minute of tonight’s match – he will find himself, at 16 years and 226 days, in the company of other illustrious colleagues.

Only six players were younger than him making their UCL debut: Youssoufa Moukoko of Dortmund, Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, and then Babayaro, Cherki, Halilovic and Tielemans.

Should he score (and dreams have no limits) he would become the youngest goalscorer ever overtaking Ansu Fati who scored against Inter at San Siro on 10 December 2019 ages 17 years and 40 days.

When the Champions League music plays tonight, Camarda will have to put a game face of sorts on. He is a shy boy, concentrated on football in the morning and studying in the afternoon. He lives with his mother Federica and father Manuel in the Comasina district, a few kilometres north of the centre of Milan.

Today his whole family will move to the San Siro area. Ready, if necessary, to film a moment of football history. Camarda will starts on the bench, Fonseca hasn’t given him any particular indications, and he could take over from Morata not just tonight but in the future too.
