HLN are reporting that Junya Ito is set to return to Genk. The Japanese winger, who left the club in 2022 to join Ligue 1 side Reims, is set to return to the side for just €2.8m. With Reims having been relegated from the French top flight last season, a number of their top performing players were available. Genk, having lost winger Christopher Bonsu-Baah to Saudi Arabia, were keen to fill the void and in Ito they reunite with a player who was one of the best in the Pro League.
Ito leaves France having scored 13 goals in 106 games for Reims while also providing 16 assists. The now 32-year-old joined Genk back in 2018 from Kashiwa Reysol. In four seasons with the side he scored 20 goals and grabbed and impressive 41 assists. The creative winger had two impressive seasons back to back in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. During the former, he scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists, while during his final year with Genk he provided 19 assists in 49 games, alongside eight goals. Genk will be hoping Ito can match these numbers while also bringing some experience to the young side.
