Genoa boss Patrick Vieira has claimed that he learned a lot during his time as a player at AC Milan, while preparing to face them as a head coach.
Milan make the trip to Genoa hoping to continue what has been a resurgence recently, one inspired by the change to a formation with a three-man defence. While there is little left to fight for in the league, the important thing is to reach the Coppa Italia final against Bologna with some momentum.
Their opponents currently sit in 13th place in the table having achieved survival comfortably. Vieiera has earned praise for the job he has done with the Grifone, though they have gone three games without winning and without scoring, so will be keen to end that run.
Vieira spoke to reporters in his pre-match press conference two days before Genoa-Milan and he previewed an important test at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. His comments were relayed by MilanPress.
“We have achieved our goal, now begins this new phase that allows the responsibility and pride of always wanting to do well. We have responsibilities in front of our fans, in front of the president, we have to finish the season well,” he said.

“I have always said that the strong point is the fans, they have always been by our side at every moment and for this we must have the right attitude, we must continue to play with intensity, desire to win, energy.
“At Milan I learned a lot, I watched, I listened and this helped my career. It is important to have this positive experience by your side. And it is important for me to help this team grow. Experienced players help others. The players who arrived in January were perfect for us, unfortunately they did not help the team much. It is a shame that they played too little.
“Survival? I never had any doubts, I wouldn’t be here, I’ve always had faith in this group and with the players we did a good job, I complimented them on their attitude and the fact that they worked with pride, determination to save the club.
“The staff also helped the players maximise their performances. We had the stability to have these results and now the responsibility is on our shoulders to finish these next four games well. The fans, the president, the club deserve it.

“All the matches are very important, unity could not be missing, we had to be right from a tactical point of view, we were all united, all towards the same goal, players and staff worked with determination and stability and the game made us take these points.
“We must continue to work with intensity, unity, until the last game. This week I asked the players for responsibility, they must be proud of this shirt and play with the intensity we have had until now.
“What do I not want to see? The group giving up, because they have never given up. I am proud of how they have worked. There are four great games left, beautiful to play, we must always be focused and we have done it this week. Milan will come to win.”
