Gerard Pique lends support to Barcelona superstar amid backlash – “Let him be” | OneFootball

Lamine Yamal has come under fire lately due to his lifestyle, which has caught the attention of Barcelona.

The young forward has also made headlines with his recent comment on Real Madrid ahead of the Clasico, with the player accusing the team of ‘cheating’.

The comment has not gone down well with Real Madrid, who feel disrespected and will send Dani Carvajal to confront him after the game.

Even the Barcelona camp sees Yamal’s comment as ‘stupid’, which should put even more pressure on Yamal.

Gerard Pique backs Lamine Yamal

However, the young winger has received some welcome support from Barcelona’s defensive legend, Gerard Pique.

In a recent interview, Pique has backed Yamal’s lifestyle while admitting that the forward will improve with age.

“Let’s accept Lamine as he is. Obviously, he’ll gain experience; no one is the same at 18 as at 38,” said the former defender (h/t Jijantes)

Talking about Yamal’s comment on Real Madrid and the subsequent backlash from the Whites, Pique believes the club are desperate as they do not have a Yamal of their own.

“As for the criticism from Madrid. It’s understandable. They’d love to have a Lamine of their own,” he said.

Pique is not the only Barcelona legend to back Yamal’s recent statement, as midfield maestro Andres Iniesta has also come out in support of the youngster.

The Spanish international does have an excellent record against Real Madrid, having racked up three goals and two assists in seven competitive appearances. He has won four of those matches while losing three.

As Barcelona take on Real Madrid yet again this weekend, Yamal will be looking to improve his record further against Los Blancos.
