Germany crashed out of the World Cup on Monday night, beaten by Paraguay on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time in the Round of 32 at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough. According to BuLi News, the player ratings reflected a largely underwhelming display.
Florian Wirtz was named Germany's standout with 6.5 out of 10. Quiet before the interval, he sparked the fightback after the break, crossing for Kai Havertz to level and later supplying another fine delivery that went unconverted. He registered four key passes, two shots and eight duels won before being withdrawn on 110 minutes.
Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger and Havertz were given 6. Joshua Kimmich and Nathaniel Brown received 5. Deniz Undav and Leroy Sané scored 3.
Felix Nmecha was rated 4 and replaced at half-time by Leon Goretzka, who earned 5. Jamal Musiala entered on 63 and also received 5. Aleksandar Pavlovic, given 4, made way on 79 for Waldemar Anton, Leroy Sané left on 87 for Nick Woltemade, and on 110 Florian Wirtz and Rüdiger were replaced by Nadiem Amiri and Malick Thiaw, with the late entrants ungraded.
Germany's squad announcement for this World Cup had been notably emotional, featuring surprise video messages from players' family members and friends. The tournament, however, ends here despite Wirtz's prominence, with Paraguay advancing from the shootout.
