This season the Bundesliga will have its traditional winter break from the 23rd of December to the 11th of January. That time is usually a chance for the clubs in Germany to recharge their batteries. From a Manchester City point of view, a big story is potentially brewing over Germany’s winter break. Speaking recently Jamal Musiala explained that a decision over his future may come during the Bundesliga’s winter break. It may be then that Manchester City learn if Jamal Musiala is gettable or not.

Speaking with RND after Germany’s emphatic 7-nil win UEFA Nations League win over Bosnia Herzegovina Jamal Musiala explained that he is currently focused on matters on the pitch. He added that the Bundesliga’s winter break maybe when his contract extension is resolved. Musiala is currently in negotiations with Bayern Munich over a new contract. His current deal runs out at the end of the 25/26 season. The German international said: “At the moment, I’m concentrating on the games with the national team and FC Bayern. I know that a lot of eyes are on my situation but I’m trying to put as little pressure on myself as possible. It’s important for me to stay fit and perform to my best until I have a bit of time to calm down. Then I can take time to think about everything. I think we’ll know more during the winter break.

Manchester City were once considered favourites to land Jamal Musiala but now that doesn’t appear so certain.

German football expert Christian Falk has previously reported that Manchester City would be the favourites to land Jamal Musiala if he did decide to leave Bayern Munich. For a brief period, it did appear that the clues were lining up in Manchester City’s favour in their reported chase for Musiala. But now that doesn’t appear so certain. Recently Musiala has expressed how happy he is at Bayern Munich. In an interview following Bayern’s 5-nil win over Mainz in the DFB Pokal last month, which was relayed by the Athletic, he said: “Yes, I can already imagine (extending the contract). We are in talks and I’m happy here.

As a player, Jamal Musiala could potentially be a key part of Manchester City’s midfield rebuild. The German international is one of the best young players in world football. With Kevin De Bruyne and several other Manchester City players nearing the end of their storied careers, the world champions do need young talent to rebuild their midfield around. Jamal Musiala fits the bill perfectly as one such player. But the more you hear Musiala talk the more you think Manchester City will have to look elsewhere to rebuild their midfield.

Based on Musiala’s recent comments an end to his contract saga is in sight. If you were a betting man you have Bayern Munich as the favourites to retain their star man. But until he signs a new deal hope remains that City could land the German international. It now appears that the Bundesliga’s winter break is when a definitive answer on Musiala’s future may arrive. That could be when learn if City have any shot of landing one of Germany’s brightest young stars.
