Barcelona began on the front foot and nearly took an early lead when Robert Lewandowski headed narrowly over the bar.

Despite dominating possession, they found chances difficult to create against Getafe’s compact defensive setup.

The hosts, who had been in strong form, relied on physicality and discipline, with Mauro Arambarri twice going close to troubling the visitors.

Barcelona continued to probe patiently, with Dani Olmo and Jooo Cancelo linking play in advanced areas but struggling to break through.

The breakthrough finally arrived in first-half stoppage time when Lopez latched onto a precise pass before finishing calmly beyond goalkeeper David Soria.

That goal gave Barcelona a deserved lead at the interval after a half in which they controlled proceedings without consistently threatening.

Getafe responded after the break with increased intensity, pressing higher and attempting to disrupt Barcelona’s rhythm.

However, clear chances remained limited, with Olmo seeing a well-struck effort saved and Jules Kounde heading just wide.

Barcelona gradually reasserted control and looked increasingly dangerous as the hosts committed more bodies forward in search of an equaliser.

The decisive second goal came midway through the second half and effectively ended the contest.

A swift counter-attack caught Getafe exposed, allowing Rashford to break clear and finish clinically to double the advantage.

The England international’s composure in front of goal ensured Barcelona would not be denied as they edged closer to the title.

Getafe continued to battle but struggled to regain a foothold, with Barcelona managing the closing stages comfortably.

The result extends Barcelona’s lead at the summit and leaves them firmly on course to lift the La Liga trophy.

With five matches remaining, they now hold a commanding advantage over their nearest challengers in Real Madrid and could seal the title in the coming weeks.

The defeat represents a setback for Getafe in their push for European qualification after a run of strong results.

Barcelona, meanwhile, will take confidence from another professional display as they close in on domestic success.
