Manchester City and Gianluigi Donnarumma have reached an agreement over a contract at the Etihad Stadium, according to reports in France.
The development marks a significant step in what could become one of the headline transfers of the summer window, with City moving closer to securing a high-profile successor to Ederson.
The Brazilian has been the subject of ongoing talks with Galatasaray, and while he remains in Manchester for now, the expectation within the club is that his departure could trigger rapid movement on Donnarumma’s signing.
Manchester City’s goalkeeping structure has already been reshaped in recent months. James Trafford has returned from Burnley in a record-breaking £31 million deal for a British goalkeeper, while Stefan Ortega’s future remains unresolved amid top-flight interest from England and Germany.
The club have also replaced long-serving third-choice Scott Carson with Chelsea’s Marcus Bettinelli, ensuring depth and homegrown status are preserved.
Manchester City’s interest in Donnarumma is not new. The Italian international has been admired by Pep Guardiola and the club’s recruitment team for several seasons, with his combination of experience, stature, and UEFA Champions League pedigree seen as an ideal fit for the Premier League giants’ long-term plans.
However, the potential to finally act on that interest appears to be aligning perfectly with the possible exit of Ederson this summer.
According to the information of L’Equipe’s Loic Tanzi, Gianluigi Donnarumma has not only already spoken with Pep Guardiola, but also now reached a contractual agreement with Manchester City officials ahead of a transfer to the club.
From the side of City, who are said to have wanted Donnarumma last season, the Etihad club reportedly do not intend to miss their chance this time around, while PSG’s asking price is set to be lower than the €40 million plus €15 million fee they paid for Lucas Chevalier.
It is further claimed that for several weeks, Manchester City have been waiting for Ederson to leave for Galatasaray to make more concrete progress, and ‘in recent hours’ have been looking for the best way to approach PSG to not have to pay a high price for the Italian.
If Ederson’s transfer to Galatasaray is finalised in the coming days, Manchester City could waste little time in accelerating formal negotiations with PSG.
With the French champions seemingly likely to lower their demands compared to the Chevalier deal, the conditions could favour a swift agreement – especially given Donnarumma’s eagerness to join.
The potential arrival of the 26-year-old would not only give Manchester City one of the most recognisable names in world football, but also provide a long-term number one capable of leading the line in both domestic and European competition for years to come.
Should all the moving parts align, Pep Guardiola’s side could be about to complete one of the summer’s most high-profile and strategically significant transfers.
