La Liga outfit Girona this evening secured for themselves an altogether unwanted piece of Champions League history.
This comes owing to developments in the Catalans’ meeting with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
Míchel’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to The Philips Stadion for the 4th outing of the club’s European campaign.
And, when all was said and done, Girona found themselves condemned to the wrong side of an eventual 4-0 result.
The last of PSV’s four goals came courtesy of one of the visitors’ stars, Ladislav Krejčí having put through his own net in the game’s final minutes.
And, owing to as much, Girona made history.
As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Girona have scored four own goals in just four Champions League games this season, the most of any team in a single edition in competition’s history.’
This comes after the Blanquivermells were also on target at the wrong end against both Paris Saint-Germain, and Feyenoord.
