Manchester City could see two of their most exciting first-team profiles leave the club for Girona this summer on temporary agreements for the forthcoming season.
Both Vitor Reis and Claudio Echeverri formally joined the Premier League giants during the last January transfer window, and are now at the centre of significant transfer planning as Pep Guardiola’s squad continues to be streamlined ahead of the new campaign.
Echeverri, 19, made his long-awaited debut for Manchester City during May’s FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, followed by appearances in the Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup – where he also scored in a 6–0 win over Al Ain.
However, while the Argentine playmaker is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the aforementioned tournament, a full season of first-team football elsewhere is viewed as the most logical next step in his development.
Reis, also 19, was signed from Palmeiras for £29.6 million in January and has struggled to nail down a consistent position in Guardiola’s line-ups.
Despite high internal ratings and long-term plans for his progression at the Etihad Stadium, the Brazilian centre-back is expected to leave on loan in the coming weeks in search of regular minutes – especially with strong interest arriving from across Europe, including from Bayer Leverkusen and FC Porto.
Now, according to the information of journalist Miquel Agut, reporting for RAC1, La Liga side Girona currently have two proposed loan deals from Manchester City in the works in Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis.
Girona’s interest in both players represents a logical continuation of their strong relationship with Manchester City. As a fellow club within the City Football Group, the La Liga outfit have proven to be a reliable and competitive environment for developing young players, with recent examples such as Yan Couto and Savinho flourishing under Míchel’s management.
With both Echeverri and Reis in need of consistent minutes, Girona’s setup and playing style offer a suitable platform for accelerated growth. While competition for Reis remains active, Girona’s advantage lies in their CFG ties and willingness to follow City’s roadmap.
Similarly, Echeverri had previously been linked with a move to AS Roma, although that route has since been ruled out by reports closer to home, with Girona now considered frontrunners should Manchester City opt for a La Liga loan spell.
Final decisions are likely to be made in early August, with both players continuing pre-season preparation under close monitoring from Manchester City staff. Should Girona’s proposals align with City’s expectations for minutes and tactical fit, a double loan move could be finalised swiftly.
