Fran Beltrán is edging towards Montilivi, with Girona moving decisively to close a January deal for the RC Celta midfielder ahead of his 30 June contract expiry. The 26-year-old is open to the switch and views the project as the right step now.

Cadena SER Girona reports that talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage, with an agreement with the player virtually in place and only minor details between the clubs remaining before the window shuts.

This is a strategic move requested by Míchel Sánchez, who has pursued the Madrid-born midfielder across several windows. He values Beltrán’s ability to keep play flowing, build from deep and read the game.

Celta do not plan to offer a new deal and prefer a fee now rather than losing him for nothing in summer. Beltrán joined from Rayo Vallecano in 2018 for eight million euros, but his prominence has waned.

Under Claudio Giráldez this season he has logged about 960 minutes in 15 games, starting only seven in La Liga, behind Ilaix Moriba, Miguel Román and Hugo Sotelo in the pecking order. That lack of continuity has cooled any renewal prospects.

Celta began with five midfielders and have already loaned Damián Rodríguez to Racing de Santander. If Beltrán departs, they could look to the market or promote youth, with Hugo Burcio already training with the first team.

Girona have also moved ahead of other suitors, with Sevilla FC among those to have shown summer interest. Barring a late twist, Beltrán is set to be in red and white within hours, strengthening Girona and offering him a reset.
