It was recently reported by Sky Germany that RB Leipzig have agreed personal terms with Rocco Reitz, but the transfer has not yet been completed, as Die Roten Bullen are still working to reach an agreement with his club, Borussia Mönchengladbach.

At a press conference on Thursday, Gladbach managing director for sport Rouven Schröder confirmed that there is interest in Reitz from a specific club and acknowledged that the captain appears unlikely to stay.

“If an agreement has been reached, then it’s between the player and the potential new club. It’s been a topic for quite some time that Rocco is in high demand. And there is certainly one club that has approached the matter much more concretely and would obviously like to have the player next year,” Schröder told reporters.

“Rocco has an extremely important value for us. I don’t think we need to keep stressing that. It’s simply about both clubs having their own interests. We also have to position ourselves for the new season and for the future. In that regard, Rocco is a key component as our most valuable player.

“The chances of Rocco still being with us next year are very, very slim. But people can be sure that we will do everything we can to do a good job for Borussia.”

With Leipzig unwilling to pay the €25-28 million release clause in Reitz’s contract, it has been suggested that the clubs could ultimately settle on a fee of around €20 million. Schröder expects the situation to be resolved relatively soon.

“I can’t imagine this dragging on endlessly now. I think it’s important that a decision is made at some point. We also stand for being transparent about these matters – and decisions have to be made. That’s why it’s certainly not something that will drag on for weeks,” he said.
