Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has said Manchester United benefitted from home advantage after his side received a contentious red card at Old Trafford.
Maxence Lacroix's red card changed the narrative of the game, after the French defender had headed Palace in front. The Eagles impressed early on despite their midweek exploits in theEuropa Conference League and took the lead when Lacroix looped a header in from Brennan Johnson's delivery.
However, the game changed when Lacroix was sent off just 10 minutes into the second half. The defender dragged Matheus Cunha to the ground, though the Brazilian theatrically tumbled and the initial contact started outside the area. Despite that, referee Chris Kavanagh awarded a penalty and sent Lacroix off for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity.
Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot to equalise, before the in-form Benjamin Sesko headed in the winner for Manchester United just eight minutes later.
Glasner was unhappy with the decision from Kavanagh and questioned whether home favouritism played its part.
"It feels that we could have got more from the game. We had the lead and played really well for the first 30 minutes. The penalty and red card decided [the game] and the foul starts outside the box," Glasner reflected toSky Sports.
"Maybe it is the Old Trafford bonus why the referee decided it was a penalty and red card. Of course it is tough. The team tried really hard today.
"It is 1-1 and you are down to 10 men for 30 minutes. We played three days ago and they had all week [to prepare]. We made two very decisive mistakes and we tried everything so the performance was absolutely OK. We have had to change our back three for weeks. When you always have to make changes, it is not the best situation. We played well until the 1-1 but it was not good enough in the end."
"The performance was how we want to play and we had enough good situations. We have to congratulate them. They were winning and in the end, they deserved it."
