After more than 53 years, FC Bayern have equaled an age-old Bundesliga goalscoring record, with Jamal Musiala’s strike against FC St. Pauli taking his tally to 101 goals for the season

Jamal Musiala laid the foundation for a performance that will go down in the Bundesliga history books with his header in the ninth minute of the game to make it 1-0. That was FC Bayern’s last goal to equal a goal record that is over half a century old

Back then, on 28 June 1972, FC Bayern made Bundesliga history under the then coach Udo Lattek in a 5-1 win over Schalke 04. Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer scored the golden record goal in the 89th minute to clinch the championship. To date, this 101-goal mark has never been broken by Bayern itself or any other team in the Bundesliga. Now, thanks to Musiala’s goal, Munich have at least equalled it once

Will the record be broken today?

munich still have 45 minutes left to break the scoring record today in the top match against St. Pauli. However, if they fail to score another goal, the record hunters still have five games left. So it will probably be a matter of time before Lattek’s team’s record falls

Even if he is not in the starting eleven today, one thing is certain: one of the reasons why Bayern have managed to break this record this season is Harry Kane. With 31 goals and five assists, he has been involved in around a third of FCB’s 102 Bundesliga goals to date.
