With the season winding down, Midlands transfer lines are moving. Joao Gomes is being linked with Atletico Madrid, Nottingham Forest are eyeing Wolves players, West Brom are chasing Barney Stewart and Aston Villa’s stance on Youri Tielemans is firming.

The Daily Record claims West Brom have had a seven-figure bid for Falkirk striker Barney Stewart rejected, with Celtic, Oxford United and Lincoln City also monitoring him. Stewart’s 10 SPL goals in the second half of the season have put him on Steve Clarke’s radar for the World Cup.

At Wolves, a Gomes departure has been widely expected. Talks with Atletico Madrid are understood to be under way and the fee is thought to be about £39m, with the pace of negotiations increasing over the weekend.

Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, now in charge at Nottingham Forest after an early-season exit from Molineux, guided survival and a run to the last four of the Conference League. He is reportedly keen on defender Ladislav Krejci and youngster Mateus Mane. Krejci’s loan is set to become permanent after an appearances trigger, while Mane has drawn sustained interest after a breakthrough campaign.

Wolves could also benefit if a sell-on clause pays out on Chiquinho. The winger, signed for around £3m and hampered by injuries, is now at Alverca and has been linked with Sporting CP.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery is said to be determined to keep Tielemans, viewing him as central to future plans. The Belgian arrived on a free and has been one of this season’s standout performers, amid interest from clubs in England.
