With eight players on international duty, Inter Miami needs to finish the game plan for the match against Charlotte FC. The Herons received the good news that Lionel Messi will return to Miami in the next few days.
However, the club is still managing Luis Suarez’s situation after his actions in the Leagues Cup final against the Seattle Sounders.
Despite the horrible momentum the Herons are living due to the Uruguayan striker, a footballer who was about to sign for Inter Miami, explained the reasons why his move to the Herons didn’t go through.
The Argentine defender didn’t arrive at Inter Miami cause there were some complications in the negotiations. That’s true. However, the statement isn’t anything anyone already knew. The biggest issue with this deal was the payment form.
Inter Miami agreed to Cruz Azul’s $7.5 million asking price, but the Herons proposed paying the fee in installments over four years.
And in that moment, the tension rose. As a logic club, the Mexican club didn’t accept it and wanted to be paid right away. Like any normal football transfer.
Gonzalo Piovi said in an interview with Fox Sport the reasons why his transfer wasn’t effective: “Unfortunately, it couldn’t happen due to the negotiations that come with football.” Adding, “The negotiations didn’t go through because what they were asking for couldn’t be fulfilled.”
Taking a look at the Herons' defensive situation, Gonzalo Piovi would have been a great investment for the roster. The former Racing Club has the experience of controlling dangerous strikers, something Falcon and Lujan aren’t doing.
Pioci recognize that Lionel Messi, the team captain, called the defender to ask him to play for Inter Miami: “It was a bit revolutionary. Having the best player in the world come and offer you the chance to play on his team is a source of pride for any footballer. The fact that he wants to bring me to his team means I’m doing things right.”
With the Herons’ tight schedule, the Cruz Azul defender could have been a great signing to rotate the center-back position and provide Falcon and Lujan with competition.
