Liverpool are facing a period of unprecedented disruption.
Arne Slot left his post as Reds’ head coach on Saturday with the Premier League title-winner failing to survive his end-of-season review. The 47-year-old along with his backroom team depart Anfield and the changes are not limited to the dugout.
Andy Robertson is leaving the club with Richard Hughes declining to offer his compatriot a new contract. Mohamed Salah has reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week deal a year early following an acrimonious fallout with the club.
And in the shape of Ibrahima Konate a prime-age defender will be exiting the club for nothing having failed to come to terms over a new deal.
It leaves Richard Hughes and potential new coach Andoni Iraola in dire need of cover in several areas.
Kostas Tsimikas has spent the past season on loan at Roma - but the Italian giants have got no obligation to buy. The Greek defender will therefore return to the AXA Training Centre with one year left on his deal.
And according to a report on talkSPORT the 30-year-old intends to stay and fight for his future at Anfield.
“Kostas Tsimikas hopes to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place,” the report reads.
“Tsimikas is hopeful of remaining at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.”
It remains to be seen what Tsimikas’ transfer destiny will be. Given his age and short contract duration the Reds are unlikely to bank a massive fee on the left-sided defender.
Milos Kerkez is expected to be the starting left-back for many years ahead but owing to the departure of Robertson Liverpool are without a reliable deputy.
It’s been a frustrating season for Tsimikas - who could not win over Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma - but his return to Anfield could really serve to save the club some money in the transfer market.
They would not need to go shopping for a reserve left-back and instead the 2024/25 Premier League title winner could provide a plug-and-play solution for Iraola or another head coach as reserve left-back.
