Alex Greenwood has been named March’s Etihad Player of the Month!
City’s captain led by example across the month and fended off strong competition from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Sam Coffey to claim the prize.
The England international started all three of our Barclays Women’s Super League assignments as Andrée Jeglertz’s side collected seven points which moved us closer to the title.
This began with a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa where she kept Chastity Grant quiet in the stalemate at Villa Park.
But as City responded to the disappointment of not winning on the road with a 5-2 victory over Spurs, Greenwood registered the assist for our first of the afternoon.
From her viciously whipped corner, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw collected the ball and instinctively fired into the net before we recorded the strong success.
The Blues then rounded off the month with a fantastic 3-0 win over Manchester United where Greenwood again starred.
After she forced Phallon Tullis-Joyce into making a superb save inside the opening minute, her pinpoint corner was then headed past the American goalkeeper by Vivianne Miedema.
Greenwood has been integral to what could be a special season for City, with the Blues needing just five points from our final three WSL matches to be crowned champions, meanwhile, we’re also in the FA Cup semi-finals.
In total, the versatile defender has made 21 appearances in all competitions and registered four assists.
It is also the first time the Greenwood has won the Club’s Player of the Month award!
Congratulations, Alex!
