Grégoire Coudert underlined his status as Brest’s number one with six saves in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Metz.

According to L'Équipe, the Rodez-born keeper began the season as number two but is increasingly decisive. He turns 27 in a few weeks, a rise in keeping with the slower development of many goalkeepers.

He arrived from Amiens in 2021 as Brest’s fourth-choice, largely under the radar. Strong mentality carried him up the hierarchy and he became a trusted deputy to Marco Bizot, setting standards in training.

Last summer he again started as back-up when Radoslaw Majecki joined on loan from Monaco to cover the Dutchman. After the Pole struggled too often, Coudert earned his chance in autumn and has since made 12 Ligue 1 appearances.

Coach Eric Roy said top-level sport is about taking your chance, noting Coudert’s early games neither cost nor won matches, but that he is now delivering points, which Roy called rewarding.

Ludovic Ajorque viewed the rise as deserved, citing Coudert’s selfless work when second choice. Hugo Magnetti said his confidence is growing, team-mates long wanted him on their side in small-sided games, and he is showing he belongs in Ligue 1 while staying grounded, which Magnetti warned remains vital when things are going well.
