Grêmio have finished installing a new Tahoma pitch at the Arena on Monday, replacing the old surface in two days.
The club said the turf arrived on Saturday in large ready-to-play rolls, allowing a quick and precise installation.
The surface now enters a stabilisation phase with levelling and post-planting care. That includes irrigation, nutrition and mowing, aiming to have the pitch ready for Grêmio’s Campeonato Gaúcho opener on the weekend of 10 and 11 January.
The stadium has received Tahoma, a variety of the Bermuda species, selected for high density, stability and an even colour through the season, and to cope with Rio Grande do Sul’s shifting climate.
Tahoma is used at Club World Cup venues and will feature in six stadiums at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. It replaces Zeon, which was replanted after last May’s floods.
Known for resistance to cold and shade, the grass suits an Arena with limited sunlight and will make it the first Série A Campeonato Brasileiro stadium to use this surface.
