Promoted to the starting XI in 2026, Grêmio centre-back Viery, 21, is being tracked by European clubs. He is viewed internally as a possible sale as the club look to their youngsters to relieve finances.

Benfica are among the sides monitoring him, as are Brighton and Newcastle, who sent scouts to the Arena for the first-leg Gre-Nal in the Gauchão final. Lille and Bologna have also made informal enquiries. ESPN first reported the interest.

Grêmio have not received an offer for Viery, though a move could be attempted in the next European window, which opens on 20 July. The player's camp believes any future deal could be around 20 million euros, approximately R$ 117 million at current rates.

After the win over Coritiba, vice-president of football Antônio Dutra Júnior said the club know their youngsters attract the market and that any proposals will be analysed when they arrive. He added there is no intention to pursue specific sales and that the club will respond once official bids come in. Viery, left-back Pedro Gabriel and attacking midfielder Gabriel Mec all started that match.

Viery has played 18 times for Grêmio in 2026, scoring once and supplying one assist, and is suspended for Saturday's game against Athletico. In four months this season he has already surpassed his 12 senior appearances from 2025, the year he debuted. An academy graduate, he is under contract until December 2029.
