According to Globo.com, Grêmio have cleared outstanding December wages and 13th-month pay for the squad, fulfilling a pledge to resolve the issue before the new year.

The payment was made last Friday, ending delays tied to everyday matters within the group. The next step is resolving a FIFA transfer ban imposed in November, which prevents the registration of new players.

The board are working to settle a debt with Granada in Spain and aim to lift the ban by the end of the year. The liability relates to the signing of Arezo, who has since been loaned to Peñarol of Uruguay.

CEO Alex Leitão had acknowledged outstanding issues with the players in recent weeks. Centre-forward Braithwaite also served an extrajudicial notice seeking R$ 7 million in signing-on fees.

The sale of Alysson to Premier League club Aston Villa will help address the most urgent matters. The deal is worth €10 million, plus €2 million in bonuses, equivalent to R$ 63.8 million and R$ 12.8 million. Grêmio hold 80 percent of the forward’s rights.
