Grêmio expect the lifting of their transfer ban in the coming days and are pursuing five signings for Luís Castro, according to Globo.com. The plan covers a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a midfielder and two forwards.
The moves are viewed internally as replacements after confirmed changes to the squad. At his unveiling, Castro stressed the need to balance ambition with investment capacity and to build a competitive squad aligned with club values.
One forward target is Tetê of Panathinaikos in Greece, who can also operate centrally behind the striker. Grêmio also want another attacker, having sold Alysson to Aston Villa in England, and with Cristian Olivera’s loan to Bahia being lined up.
In midfield, 22-year-old Evertton Araújo is the main focus. Progress has been hampered while Flamengo settle their coaching situation before assessing Grêmio’s offer. Little used, Alex Santana has left and returned to Corinthians.
Despite currently having three goalkeepers, the club are searching for another. Weverton of Palmeiras was among the targets. Bento, who worked with Luís Castro at Al-Nassr, was considered but his Saudi Arabia salary makes any deal unfeasible.
Gabriel Grando is under contract until October and talks over a renewal continue without agreement. Tiago Volpi ended the year out of favour and a departure is not ruled out.
A defender suited to Castro’s preferred profile is also on the list, with Adryelson pursued in mid-year. Further exits are possible, with João Lucas, Jemerson, Camilo and Cristaldo able to leave if offers arrive.
