Grêmio will hand a senior debut to 22-year-old goalkeeper Thiago Beltrame against Corinthians on Saturday in the Brasileirão, according to Globo.com.
An academy product who joined as a child, Beltrame has been with the first team since 2024. He has featured only in the professional Copa FGF with the club’s transition side, last appearing in October 2024.
His chance comes with Weverton away with Brazil for the World Cup and Gabriel Grando injured. Head coach Luís Castro’s other option is 17-year-old Gabriel Menegon, another academy goalkeeper.
Beltrame stands 2.01m and has represented Brazil at under-17 and under-18 level. This season he has been an unused substitute seven times, four in the league, two in the Copa Sul-Americana and one in the Copa do Brasil.
In 2023, transition-team goalkeeping coach Marcelo Rhoden described him as diligent, resilient and attentive, with strong reading of the game.
Weverton will return after Brazil’s World Cup campaign. Grando is estimated to be back in July during the tournament break. The 17:30 kick-off at the Arena will be Grêmio’s last before the pause.
