Pep Guardiola has confirmed that new signings Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Omar Marmoush could feature against Chelsea in Sunday’s Premier League fixture.
City have been very active in this January transfer window, adding three signings to bolster a struggling side and their signatures have come at considerable cost to the club, with £120 million in transfer fees.
Pep Guardiola’s team face a tough test this weekend as they host Chelsea, who are under the stewardship of his former assistant Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea have seen a drop in form in recent weeks, although nothing to match the torrid run of results that an injury-riddled City went through prior to the new year.
Although the title now seems out of reach for both sides, this match maintains significance in the competitive race for Champions League qualification.
City’s new signings have all arrived in the last week but will be eligible to feature in the Premier League this weekend. Asked if they will be included in the squad for the match, Guardiola said: “Yeah. We don’t have players.”
On the possibility of the new recruits making his starting eleven, the Catalan answers, “I don’t know yet. They can play, but I don’t know yet.”
City’s trio of signings were ineligible to play in the Champions League this week, where a loss to PSG left the Manchester side on the brink of elimination. Due to the scheduling, the Blues have not had much time on the training pitch this week.
However, the Catalan was still positive on the first impressions that the new additions have made: “Vitor is young, has a huge personality, he needs time.
“Khusanov has already settled. The fact that he was playing in the French league means he can handle the tough, quick, fast players. But of course he doesn’t speak much English, nor French, so communication will be one of the situations that we have to deal with.
“And Omar, yes, he had a training session, the first training, so I think he will adapt quick.”
