Pep Guardiola says Nico Gonzalez is expected to miss out again when Manchester City take on Wolves on Saturday.

The midfielder has missed the last three games for his side and Guardiola does not expect him to return this weekend.

Matheus Nunes, meanwhile, will undergo an assessment ahead of the game having been out with illness of late.

“Matheus still has the virus,” Guardiola said. “I don’t know what the doctors will say this afternoon.

“And Nico, I don’t think so.”

Rodri has returned to the City side in place of Gonzalez lately, however, but was sent off in the defeat to Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.

Guardiola has defended the former Ballon d’Or winner though, urging patience with him having endured a nightmare with injuries over the past year.

“11 months injured. Give him time,” he said.

“He wants (to get to his best) but do you think if we play good or bad it just depends on him?

“Give him time. It’s 11 months. You need time to recover.

“I know the reason why we are struggling now. I know 100% what’s happened with the team. I know it.”

Marc Guehi is set to make his debut for the club against Wolves, meanwhile, having signed from Crystal Palace earlier this week.
