Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised Jeremy Doku, suggesting that he is currently the most ‘decisive winger’ in the world.
The Belgium international assisted the only goal of the night in midweek as City defeated Burnley to move top of the table. Although it was just his first Premier League assist of 2026, he has produced a number of stellar displays in recent weeks.
“I don’t know if you can find a more decisive winger than Jeremy right now,” insisted Guardiola. “Doku, to be honest, the threat of that guy is unbelievable.
“Look at the goal in Burnley, how he fights, controls the assist for Erling. So it’s difficult to find.
“But you have to be careful with him. You know, play three days, three days, three days with Jeremy for his history. Be careful.”
City’s boss had been explaining the lack of minutes played by fellow winger Savinho this season. The Brazil international has been limited to just five Premier League starts, and only one of those has come since October.
“The reason why he didn’t play was because Antoine Semenyo has been making an incredible impact,” explained Guardiola. “He played in Madrid, Savinho. So, it’s not a friendly game, right? Champions League, first leg. So, it’s not about that.
“I remember against Newcastle, in the FA Cup, I think so, was the, man of the match, the best, what a game he played before Madrid. And, afterwards, injured.”
The 22-year-old is expected to get an opportunity against Southampton at Wembley on Saturday. He has featured in both of the last two rounds in the FA Cup.
The Catalan continued: “He extended his contract, not a long time ago. That meant how the club trusts him. He has incredible potential.”
