Pep Guardiola has said Kyle Walker is ‘one of the greatest full-backs ever’ as the defender prepares to return to Manchester City with Burnley this weekend.
Walker will return to the Etihad for the first time since ending his eight-year spell at the Etihad in the summer. During his time with the Citizens, Walker won 15 major honours, including six league titles and the Champions League.
The 35-year-old is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s best-ever right-backs, but Guardiola believes that status extends worldwide.
Discussing Walker at his pre-match press conference, he stated his belief that the defender is one of the best ever in his position.
“I’m pretty sure everybody will be happy to see him,” Guardiola said.
“It was an unbelievable few years for us. He was the right-back who defined our time here in the last nine or 10 years. I’m pretty sure he will get the gratitude of our fans.
“Absolutely he deserves it. [He is] one of the greatest full-backs ever.”
