Manchester City are ready to break the world record for a full-back to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle.

City target right-back solution

Manchester City preparing a huge offer to solve their long-standing right-back problem. According to reports from TEAMtalk, City are ready to break the world transfer record for a defender in that position to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle United.

The Premier League champions have been searching for stability at right-back since the departure of Kyle Walker. Livramento is now seen as the main target for the upcoming summer window.

Newcastle struggling to extend contract

Livramento remains under contract with Newcastle until 2028 but talks over a new deal have not progressed. Reports claim the player has not asked to leave, yet City believe he is very interested in a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Newcastle are expected to demand around £70 million if they agree to sell. If that happens, the transfer would likely break the current world record for a full-back.

The existing record stands at £60 million, paid by Paris Saint Germain to Inter Milan for Achraf Hakimi in 2021. City also hold the British record for full-back after paying £57 million to Juventus for Joao Cancelo in 2019.

Why City want Livramento

City view Livramento as the perfect fit for their system. This season, Matheus Nunes has often filled in at right-back even though he joined the club as midfielder from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rico Lewis is another option but he is also used in midfield.

Signing Livramento would give City a natural right-back with pace, energy and defensive strength. The club already broke the world record for a centre-back when they signed Josko Gvardiol and they now appear ready to invest heavily again.
