Gonçalo Guedes and Carlos Soler have Real Sociedad within 90 minutes of La Cartuja after a decisive link-up at San Mamés that evoked their Valencia days.

According to Superdeporte, the former Valencia duo are central to Pellegrino Matarazzo’s plan and led the Donostia club’s surge in Bilbao.

In a fevered Basque derby and a packed Catedral, Soler took the ball between the lines, looked up and threaded a piercing pass for Guedes, who had darted diagonally in behind. The forward lifted the ball towards the far post, where Turrientes arrived to finish and tilt the tie towards the txuri-urdin.

If they can protect their advantage at home, Soler and Guedes will reach a third Copa final together. The first two came with Valencia.

The 2019 showpiece ended in glory against Barcelona, the high point of a project shaped by Mateu and Marcelino, with Soler supplying a fine cross for a key assist.

By 2022, under José Bordalás, Valencia were battling decline, yet Guedes still fired an unforgettable semi-final strike against Athletic at Mestalla to send them to Seville.

La Cartuja then brought heartbreak as Yunus Musah blasted his penalty over, ending the dream. That proved the final Valencia season for Soler and Guedes, with the club since fighting, and still fighting, to avoid relegation in three of the past four campaigns.
