Chemsdine Talbi’s World Cup outing for Morocco triggered a playful exchange as Guy Mowbray nudged Alan Shearer into praising Sunderland during the Group C clash with Brazil.

Sunderland Echo reports that the winger was introduced in the second half, having impressed in his first season on Wearside after the club’s Premier League return.

Under Régis Le Bris, Sunderland finished seventh to qualify for Europe, and Talbi etched himself into recent folklore by equalising at St James’ Park in the win over Newcastle United.

Talbi’s appearance led Mowbray to underline the club’s sizeable contingent at the tournament, noting the Black Cats have 12 players involved, two more than Real Madrid.

Shearer teased Mowbray about sounding like a Sunderland fan, prompting a tongue-in-cheek back and forth. Mowbray invited his co-commentator’s North East expertise to shine, and Shearer ultimately acknowledged that Sunderland had a great season, which Mowbray said came without gritted teeth.
