Josko Gvardiol says City are focused completely on ourselves and our fight for the Premier League, a competition which continues to get stronger and stronger.
The Croatia international featured for the entirety of City’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, and it marked his 100th outing for the Club since signing in 2023.
He also started in our recent wins over Napoli (2-0) and Manchester United (3-0), seeing him make a strong return to Pep Guardiola’s side following an injury.
The positive week of results sees City move to ninth in the Premier League table and Champions League standings.
It’s also an impressive turnaround in results following back-to-back defeats in the English top-flight, with Gvardiol a key player in our upturn.
And after Sunday’s result, the defender stated that the squad is focused on us and us alone in what is expected to be one of our toughest fights for the Premier League title yet.
“Each season the league is getting stronger and stronger and it’s going to be difficult,” began Gvardiol.
“It’s the early stage of the season and there’s many games to play so we’ll see. We need to take it game by game and just be focused on ourselves.”
It’s another busy period for City with the addition of the Carabao Cup to our fixture list.
We travel to Huddersfield on Wednesday evening as City look to win silverware as early as possible.
But after conquering a busy seven days, Gvardiol is confident that City can take many positives from our draw with Arsenal, which will make the team stronger, closer and ready to maintain our momentum.
“We can pick so many positive things,” said the versatile defender.
“Every player gave 100% to fight, every duel, every second ball. That’s what we’ve missed a little bit and me as a defender; I can tell you that I’m really happy to see my team next to me fighting for every ball.
“Today we’ve shown we’re capable of doing those things and we just need to keep going that way.
“It’s been a tough week. Three games in seven days, so I think we did a great job this week.
“We haven’t lost a game, so I think we just need to keep going that way. The next game is the Carabao Cup so hopefully we recover well and we’ll go through.”
