Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly nearing a transfer to Arsenal with a fee agreed for the Sporting CP striker.

Gyokeres has been made a top transfer target for Arsenal, who have put the signing of a centre-forward at the front of their priorities for the summer transfer window. New sporting director Andrea Berta is understood to be a huge admirer of Gyokeres, who has scored 96 goals in 101 games since joining Sporting in 2023.

The Swedish striker netted his 53rd goal of the season at the weekend as Sporting sealed Primeira Liga title success with a 2-0 win over Vitoria SC. Gyokeres was coy on his future at full-time, but reports from Portuguese publication O Jogo claim a transfer to Arsenal is imminent.

The North Londoners have reportedly agreed a £59m fee for the forward, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.

Arsenal’s capture of Gyokeres would be a huge coup as the Gunners look to respond to a fifth straight season without silverware.

Manchester United have also been heavily linked with Gyokeres, who impressed under Ruben Amorim during the latter’s time in charge at The Estádio José Alvalade.

Though Gyokeres has a release clause of €100m (£84.1m) in his contract, Sporting are prepared to accept a reduced fee to allow the player a move to a leading European league.

In addition to back-to-back seasons as the Primeira Liga’s top scorer, Gyokeres leads Portugal’s top flight this season for shots, goal-creating actions and progressive carries. He also ranks third for successful take-ons and fourth for chances created.
