The hosts spurned multiple chances of their own throughout the game, the best of them falling for Jamie Vardy, who was once denied well by Stefan Ortega Moreno, before poking over from close-range later on in the game.

The striker revealed his relief after scoring and spoke about his happiness as we bounced back from recent disappointing results to win.

"It’s always a relief when you score. It was an important goal to go two goals up. Leicester did a really good game and they’ve been playing really well under the new coach.

"We knew it would be difficult. Every game is difficult. It’s about getting the game to turn towards your favour."

The fixture marked a landmark occasion for Guardiola, who has now taken charge of 500 matches for City, winning 355 in total, with 234 of them coming in the Premier League.

Haaland is now looking forward to some well-deserved rest and recovery, with the team's next fixture coming in the new year on 4th January against West Ham United.

"It’s been a difficult time," he said. "Now it’s new years, so don’t think too much about football.

"It's five or six days until the next game,  I think it’s the longest time I think in a pretty long period, so now we can rest a little bit and then we go again on the 4th."
