Manchester City will face off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this Wednesday night as they look to secure a good result on the road in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League clash. The Mancunian club managed to earn an impressive 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the FA Cup recently, so they would be eager to keep their good form going in midweek.

Pep Guardiola will set his players up in a 4-1-3-2 formation and is expected to make a few changes to his first team for this game. Erling Haaland, Rodri and Rayan Cherki could all play from the start of this contest.

Defence

Gianluigi Donnarumma will operate in between the sticks for the Mancunian club after he shipped in one goal in his last appearance. Abdukodir Khusanov will function alongside Marc Guehi at the centre of the Man City backline as they look to keep things solid at the back during the game.

Matheus Nunes will try to prove his worth as the right-back, while Rayan Ait-Nouri fills in on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will need to perform their defensive duties well before trying to offer some support to their teammates in the final third.

John Stones will offer cover for the centre-back positions.

Midfield

Rodri will anchor the midfield for Man City as they hope to win the 50-50 battles at the centre of the park.

The gifted trio of Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Rayan Cherki will play just ahead of him as Guardiola’s box-to-box midfielders. All three of them need to move the ball well if they want to create enough chances for Man City to win this game at the Bernabeu.

Tijjani Reijnders, Nico Gonzalez and Phil Foden will be named on the bench as they wait for their chance to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if required.

Attack

Omar Marmoush and Erling Haaland will lead the line for the Mancunian giants up top. Both of them will try to get in behind the Real Madrid backline at every chance they can get.

Antoine Semenyo and Savio will have to be content with a place on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the latter stages of the game if Man City are in need of a goal by then.
